Listening to “NOIR at Night”

This was a little difficult. Mostly commercials – but good ones. I think it could have been longer and more of a story line. I found it hard to listen to and keep an interest in it.

I can’t really put my finger on any characters or story line here. I noticed while tweeting there wasn’t much to say. Kind of wished I would have tuned in another night!

Reflections of “Noir We There Yet” Radio Show!

I enjoyed this project very much and for the first time really got lucky with a great group! I can’t begin to explain how much better and smooth things went just as a result of having a good group with everyone doing a part!

I was out of town for work obligations and was not able to listen to our radio show live when it aired! I know that Brenda and Spencer listened live on behalf of the group – but I so would have loved to listen first hand. I have listened to it actually several times.

I am actually very proud of this production and I feel we all did an awesome job working on it together! We have received a few comments but nothing real critical.

I think I would have taken more time and worked more closely in the final product. While we worked very quickly and diligently and put this together I think if I could do anything differently it would be to edit and edit the final before submission. This really could use three weeks to complete and that would allow more time to edit and really put it together smooth. There is a commercial repeated and some of the background sounds were a little longer than I would have liked. Although we carefully planned out the time it still didn’t work well in the end.

I think I enjoyed working in the group at the UMW booth the most. I loved the google doc work too but not as much as the live interaction in the booth!

One of the hardest things was the timing – trying to layout the show and set the time so we hit 25 minutes. Again, I think we would have had an even better end product if we had just a little more time to complete the assignment.

My advice to future ds106 students would be not to waste a single minute getting started and working all the way through it. With a dynamic group it can be done but timing is everything.

Great assignment though!

Listening to “Noir Not the Father”

I found it very interesting listening to others shows! I found listening to Noir Not the Father very suspenseful and intriguing! Kind of like watching Jerry Springer and Maury. “Who’s the baby daddy”! You just had to stay tuned in order to find out the results. I think the bathroom “quickie” was the funniest thing. Boy back in the day you could find that type of stuff going on almost anywhere!

I believe they did a good job in making the listeners feel the suspense while waiting for the results. Did an awesome job with the narration! I loved him coming in and letting you know that she was flipping her hair and flirting! The commercials and music choices were great! Good ole fashioned elevator music. What else would they have back then.

I think the flow was good and really didn’t find anything that didn’t work with this radio show. Great characters Jackie and Jack especially, but Blair was funny too always trying to hook up! Great collaboration together as a team, and sounds like a smooth completed project!

Break, Break, Break Radio Days Week 7 (Includes Spring Break)

End of week two – radio show! Again, this week went very well! We have one of the best groups I have ever worked in – absolutely no issues, everyone did their part and without having to be prompted at all. The Google Doc was the best idea and I am glad that I got to work in and discover this process. It is awesome as we all worked in it at once and could see one another and track exactly what we were chatting about while actually making the changes within the document! Can’t get any better than this I thought! Watched the weekly video – a little lengthy I might add but hey well worth as two of our team member got an awesome shout out about their work! Capture Emily Our group continued working on the radio show finishing up with a group meeting in the ITCC Building on Saturday to do the recording. This too went so well and it was very cool doing something that I have never done before. Again, another first for me was recording in the booth. We worked well together and things went pretty seamless except one of our first recording kind of come up missing in the end and we had to record it again and Sound Cloud didn’t want to cooperate and wouldn’t let it fully download. We then decided to record it into smaller clips and they downloaded just fine. And the final product:

“Noir We There Yet?” NWTY Radio Show!!

We worked on three daily creates during the week and with the radio show final project due I really focused on the first ones that came out but I still had to have an interest in them before I did them. I only skipped one but here are my three Daily Creates:

I realize I had a little difficulty with the comments assignment last week, however, and of course after I posted the final summary, It cleared up in my mind and I realized what it was supposed to be. I then started commenting and capturing the comments. Saved them all to a Word document so that I could complete the assignment properly and have at least ten comments. Here is my post to my comments:

Comments, Comments, and more Comments – Week 7

It was a short week – I loved it and really look forward to the spring break!

Noir We There Yet? Group Radio Show 2!!

End of week two – radio show! I have to say again the Google Doc was the best idea and I am glad that I got to work in and discover this process. It is awesome as we all worked in it at once and could see one another and track exactly what we were chatting about while actually making the changes within the document! Can’t get any better than this I thought!

Our group continued working on the radio show finishing up with a group meeting in the ITCC Building on Saturday to do the actual recording. Final version put together and finalized with a little minor glitch . . . timing! Needed a little more time to meet the project requirement. Had to add a commercial in order to stretch to meet that. Noir we there yet – nope not quite! And the final product:

“Noir We There Yet?”

Bumper Sticker – Noir We There Yet?

I worked well with including my character, radio ID, and part of the theme of our show into this bumper sticker promo. I am enjoying these assignments more and more. Of course they are making more sense and coming together easier.

My bumper sticker promo:

NWTY

As we were preparing for our radio show we were including a little design to the mix and promo of our show. This gives you a hint of our radio ID and what is going to be on our show tied to one of the characters and the breaking news to come.

I love designing these things. They are fun and a good challenge to pulling things together and yet connecting them to Noir, our stories, or assignments. I used PowerPoint in order to shape, color, and fade my bumper sticker. Introducing NWTY – Noir We There Yet? radio. The tunnel is pictures in order to show where an accident is going to happen causing breaking news! It’s all very Noir to me!!

Noir We There Yet – Group Radio Show!

What an interesting and quick-moving week. Radio days started out with me tweeting @Spencer_CScott to see if we could form a group! @BrendaLevoy and I knew we couldn’t do it with just the two of us and needed some expertise! Spencer was working with a couple of others and we were able to self organize our group of five members. We have Spencer Scott, Cody Walker, Brenda Levoy, Emily Bostaph, and myself Barbara Hall. With five members of our group we quickly determined that we would need at least 25 minutes of show.

Emily was able to create a Google Doc for us to all collaborate on and bring our group and ideas all together. This went really smooth for our group and we soon found out that we work well together and all have some great ideas and thoughts. Here’s our Google Doc  so you can see our process and all of our ideas. We started working on the group name, some ideas on the show, how we would involve our characters, and keep in the concept of Noir. Ideas started flowing and we were participating and could barely keep up with them all.

We assigned the three bumpers and three commercials required so everyone could get a good head start working on them. We finally came up with our group name after working out a few. End result “Noir We There Yet?” is who we are and our radio station ID is NWTY – that’s right “naughty” because that’s a part of Noir! We then went out to the Google Doc for the instructors and added our group. We also invited all three instructors to our group document in order to keep them “in the loop” so to speak with us and our progress.

We then started actually pinning assignments and making certain everyone had a share of the ideas, decisions, and final project. We determined what type of show we were going to have and that being a news broadcast of some crime and things happening in our town. We strategically pulled each of our characters in one by one to ensure it all made sense. Characters Vinny D and George Bozzo are Mafia Boss’s for two different families and areas. Of course they are both interested in winning the heart of Cecilia (femme fatale). Donnie Rawlen our news commentator and Isabelle our detective that loves a good crime.

With our ideas in place, assignments made for who has which part, and individual bumpers/commercials that need completed we went off in our own directions to get started on the project.

I have used Audacity and PowerPoint while working on the bumper sticker for NWTY Radio. My bumper sticker includes some hints of one of the breaking news stories to be used in our radio show.

NWTY

And of course the radio bumper itself with some good old fashioned piano bar music in the background.

It all seems to be going well – haven’t heard of any complaints or difficulties yet. We seem to be a good team and organized.

We have two awesome commercials done. I’d share but don’t want to let too many details out before our final show airs.

On my personal assignments to the radio show I have completed two of the three breaking news stories and my bumper sticker for promo of the show. I have also started working on my radio bumper but that’s not quite where I want it yet.

I would have to say this is a good start for week one and now we just need to blend it all together during week two and complete out radio show.
